Retreats and Workshops
Adult Retreats & Workshops
Shannon offers a wide variety of retreats and workshops combining the arts with communication and contemplative practices, and body awareness and movement. All of these programs have been developed from Shannon's educational training and personal life experiences. These elements are woven together and the results are a supportive and powerful atmosphere for a transformational journey to take place.
The programs can be designed for an individual, couple, or group. Anyone interested in health and wellness, personal development, and team building would benefit from these experiences. The participants learn things about themselves and others that can be directly applied to their life and work situations. Shannon has worked in many different environments from a private retreat setting, to part of a team hosting a leadership retreat for professionals.
Veil Painting Art Retreat
This painting journey is powerful. It is intimate, intense, and revealing. It works with one's biography, and many aspects that need healing can surface. Shannon understands this process personally and creates a safe container for you to delve deep within. She weaves together poetry, meditation, contemplation, journaling, and body awareness and movement, along with the nourishment of healthy food, goodies and teas, to support you. It is a complete package created to meet your needs.
Veil Painting is a meditative form of painting and a wonderful way to explore the world of colour. Absolutely no art experience is necessary; Shannon will guide and teach you from the very beginning. We start by building up many thin washes of colour. As we paint, our imagination connects with the layers of colours. The painting may end in a colour exploration or develop into a concept depending upon your vision. The minimum amount of time given for a 16x20" painting would be 2 ½ - 3 days. This retreat can be held for an individual, couple, or small group.
Contemplative Collage Workshop
Collage is a wonderful form of visual expression that can be used to help you learn more about yourself. It is a fun, easy process that anyone can do- absolutely no art experience is necessary. Collage has become a recognized way to visualize life goals, contemplate issues and brainstorm. By immersing yourself in the process and contemplating your collage, you soon discover layers of meanings.
Shannon is an artist and teacher who uses this approach in her own life. She will guide and support your collage journey with poetry, journaling, discussion, contemplation, meditation, body awareness and movement. These elements will help you open up to the experience and deepen your creative journey.
This workshop is a full day and can be designed for individuals, couples, families, or groups. In addition, individual or group follow-up sessions can be provided for further guided contemplation and discussion of your collage.
Experiencing Colour
This course aims to help parents or teachers bring inspiration to themselves and their children by their deepening awareness of colour through 'wet on wet' watercolour painting. Colour stories will be explored, and materials and preparation will be discussed.
5 hours
*Adult Workshops for 'Wet on Wet' Painting, Monoprinting, and other art techniques for drawing and painting are available for private or group instruction. Just let Shannon know what your interests are.*
Children Workshops
'Wet on Wet' Painting
Using watercolours we will experience the fluid motion of colours blending together. Beautiful colour explorations are created as if by magic.
Children will be led through a colour story to start their painting journey. They will then experience the colours dancing on their own pages. There will be time for the children to immerse themselves in several paintings.
Depending on the age range, the painting subjects and complexity will change to suit the developmental needs of the children. The focus with painting involves leading the children through experiencing the magic of colour, one colour at a time, to an increasing degree of mixing colours together. Children go from experiencing the feeling and soul mood of the colours first and gradually form becomes involved as they get older.
Monoprinting
Painting directly onto a hard surface, you blend the colours into a design or scene, and "lift off" an original print. This is a fun and easy printing technique that is easy to learn and appropriate for any age.
*Other workshops on different art techniques are available in drawing, collage, etc. Just ask Shannon.*
